VELCO Celebrates 60 - A Benefit for the Greater Rutland Makerspace

VELCO is turning 60 and we want you to help us celebrate.

For 60 years, Rutland-based VELCO has served Vermont through collaboration and innovation. To celebrate this milestone, we are having a party to honor our past and support the next generation of innovators.

On Thursday, October 27, 5:30-7:30, join us at the Vermont Farmers Food Center in downtown Rutland for a fun and energizing event - local musicians, local food, and a showcase of local makers' magic. A short presentation to celebrate VELCO's past, present and the future as a part of the Rutland and Vermont community will cap the evening.

Tickets are $20 per person. All proceeds from the event support the creation of the Greater Rutland Makerspace, an initiative supported by Rutland Economic Development Corporation (REDC).

A group of Rutland area residents and local organizations, led by Rutland Economic Development Corporation (REDC) and Castleton University, are working to start a Makerspace in Rutland, VT.

What is a Makerspace?

A Makerspace is more than just a shared workshop with all the tools you don't have space for or couldn't afford on your own. A Makerspace is a community of people sharing their knowledge, experience, and ideas in addition to tools, equipment, and workshop space. Its members are a diverse group featuring hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, local school representatives and students as well as start-up, non-profit, and for-profit companies.

Classes & Equipment:

  • 3D Printers
  • Laser Cutters
  • Woodworking
  • Metalworking
  • Welding
  • Electronics
  • Jewelry Making
  • Programming
  • CNC & Computer-Aided Design
  • Much More!

Access to the space and equipment is available to everyone for a monthly, or yearly, membership fee, with the option to reserve personal workbench or small office space for an additional fee.

Members of the community, as well as of the Makerspace, would also be offered opportunities to teach or enroll in classes in related fields and proper equipment use.

Get Involved

The most important part of a Makerspace is you! For the Greater Rutland Makerspace to succeed, we need a group of interested, excited members who want to learn new skills and share their skills through mentoring others or teaching classes. Whether you are a hobbyist with dreams that are too big for your basement, an innovator that just needs the space and resources to get your new business up and running, or an outgoing individual that loves working with on projects with others, we want you to join us!
